About Alan D Weiss Precious Metalsmith Jeweller in Melbourne

Alan Weiss has been a manufacturing jewellery since the 70’s. Having been introduced to jewellery design and creation by his father, for whom at the time it was a hobby, he started his apprenticeship in 1976 under the guidance of a prominent Italian Jeweller.

Alan, over 2 consecutive years won Honourable Mentions for the Apprentice of the year competition. As an award winning jeweller, in the seven years with his first employer, he won 3 consecutive years the first prize for the best Jeweller with the Jewellery Association of Australia, in the employers name, of which in one of those years, Alan won three catagories.

In 1985 Alan decided that he had enough experience to be able to read the customers desires and understand their wants and needs, and went out on his own, manufacturing for trade clients like Hardy Brothers, Schlagers Estate Jewellery, Panache Jewellery, Ian’s of South Yarra, amongst some, where the trust was such that these retailers would give Alan open slather to create the designs he wanted to suit the gemstones supplied or requested. Alan also designed unique pieces he was commissioned to create by his private clients such as, engagement rings, pendants bangles, bracelets, necklaces, etc. In fact, if you can think it, Alan can design and create it.

Having studied engineering in school, and working with a classical jeweller during his apprenticeship, Alan learned many aspects of the hand-made manufacturing process, that most Jewellers have forgotten or are not being taught today, due to the advancements in mass production technologies. Alan meticulously creates his jewellery using “Old-School” methods, thus ensuring that each piece is beautiful and unique.

Alan has made precious metal and stone Trophies for the Victorian government, Mayoral Jewellery for local government (Caulfield City Council, Knox City Council, Ballarat City Council) and specialises in the Old and Modern Classics and Art Deco design Jewellery.
